245. Black Diamond Wooden Raven

Wooden Raven figure from Black Diamond company. 4" high with stand, hand painted. Comes with small booklet containing Raven and Sun myth. Advertised as a 'Raven' the image seems to suggest a Thunderbird with the high 'ears', most commonly associated with the style.

Light wooden carving of Tsimshian style pole, depicting the Chief Johnson monument in Ketchican Alaska.
12" high, hand painted and modelled in four pieces.

7 " high carved wooden piece, signed Kiana. Compact and precisely carved, with traditional motifs. Age uncertain.

Hand carved sculpture of 'Raven' by Danny Joseph. 





Signed on the base, but with name obscured at some point. Name still visible beneath marker pen, after cleaning.

Danny Joseph of Kwakiutl tribe, also created  item No. 205.
 

215. Hand Carved Ironwood Totem II



Superb hand carved Thunderbird made from dense Ironwood. Same style as No34, but with larger base and slight stylistic variation. No TM or makers marks visible. Slightly redder colouration to 34. 6" high

Single piece hand carvings of Eagle and Grizzly Bear. Eagle has shop sticker on the base and Bear has initials 'AC' 





 

211. Large Wooden Display Totem Pole

4' hand carved wooden totem pole, no makers marks. Hand finished with Thunderbird seated atop a bear with an owl on the chest. Crooked beak and ears on the thunderbird are very distinctive.

205. Danny Joseph Carved Cedar Thunderbird

Large 14" hand carved model, showing man grasping a salmon as Thunderbird rises overhead.
Signed on base by 'Danny Joseph' of Kwakiutl Tribe. Finished with an amber varnish. An old break to left wing has been repaired in the past.

Wooden craft piece for tourist industry. 4" high, hand painted with simple details. Similar in style and probably from the same range as No162.



 

189. Wooden Victoria Totem




Unusual wooden totem model, hand painted. Wooden base and what seems to be a dense wood totem, depicting bears and thunderbird. The topmost animal holds a salmon in its paws. Unmarked, but a small label sits on the front, slightly overpainted 'Victoria, Canada'

 Compare no 116, for coloration, also marked 'Victoria'




188. Chief White Eagle Wooden Thunderbird

 



8" High hand carved cedar. Chief White Eagle (Basil F Heath) was a film actor alongside John Wayne and sold totem poles to tourists as a sideline. Heath starred in 'Northwest Passage', 'Red River' and 'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon'.


186. Gordon R. Clayton Beaver and Sun Bentwood Box


Large 8" x 6" hand crafted cedar box, with beaver represented on four sides.Sun motif decorates the lid. Signed inside lid.
